Elevated railways are a good way of building a rail line where there isn't space for a normal railway reservation.
They are cheaper than tunnels and less disruptive to build. They are also more pleasant for the passengers to ride (daylight instead of artificial light).
An elevated railway does not need to be ugly or disrupt the skyline - for example, the Brisbane Airport line.
